Inspector General CSArn Domenico ABBENANTE was born in Avellino on 18 February 1956. He came from the 7th Course of the Joint Military Health Academy - Air Force Nucleus of Florence, which he attended between 1975 and 1981.
He obtained his Classical Secondary School Diploma at the Liceo Pietro Colletta in Avellino and, in 1981, his degree in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Florence.
He is qualified to practise as a Physician, Dentist and Psychologist.
In 2008 he obtained a degree in Legal, Economic and Managerial Sciences of Sport at the University of Teramo.
On 30 September 1981 he was promoted to Lieutenant and on 27 July 1982 to Captain.
From July 1982 until October 1984 he was assigned to the Salto di Quirra Joint Experimental and Training Range, with the role of Head of the Health Service.
On 31 December 1985 he was promoted to Major.
From October 1984 until 1 April 1986 he was assigned to the Command of the 2nd Region, Territorial Health Directorate, where he served as Officer Assigned to the Director and, at the same time, as Officer Assigned to the Somatic Department of the Air Force Selection Centre at Vigna di Valle.
On 1 April 1986 he was transferred to the Viterbo Airport Command as Health Adviser to the Commander until 31 October 1986, and from 1 November 1986 to 29 March 1990 as Head of the Health Service.
On 31 December 1989 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel.
From 30 March 1990 until 30 July 1992 he was transferred to the Medico-Legal Board of the Defence in Rome, where he served as Full Member of the 4th Section, Officer Assigned to the President of the Medico-Legal Board of the Defence for special assignments, and as acting Secretary of the Medico-Legal Board of the Defence.
From 31 July 1992 until 13 September 1998 he held the position of Head of the 2nd Section - 1st Office of the Air Force Logistics Inspectorate - 5th Department. During this period he also served as Officer Assigned to the Head of the Air Force Health Corps and as Head of the Personnel Section of the said body.
On 1 July 1999 he was promoted to the rank of Colonel.
From 12 July 1990 to 30 July 2002 he was transferred to the Air Force Command in Rome, where he held the positions of Senior Officer at the disposal of the Commander for Special Assignments, Director of the Department, and Head of the Health Group of the Garrison Health Services Department.
From 2 September 2002 to 30 October 2005 he was employed at the "Aldo Di Loreto" Air Force Medico-Legal Institute in Rome as Head of the Aeromedical Centre for Psychophysiological Selection, based in Guidonia.
From 31 October 2005 to 30 December 2006 he was Reporting Member of the Air Force Health Appeals Commission in Rome.
From 31 December 2006 to 30 June 2010 he was transferred to the Air Force Medico-Legal Institute in Rome as Deputy Director and Head of the Coordination and Admissions Office.
On 1 July 2010 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
From 1 July 2010 to 31 October 2011 he was Head of the Office of the Head of the Air Force Health Corps.
From 1 November 2011 to 8 March 2015 he was Director of the Air Force Institute of Aerospace Medicine in Rome.
From 9 March 2015 to 22 March 2015 he was Head of the Office of the Head of the Air Force Health Corps.
On 1 July 2015 he was promoted to the rank of Inspector General.
From 23 March 2015 to 17 July 2016 he served at the Medico-Legal Board of the Defence in Rome, where he held the positions of Vice President and President.
On 18 July 2016 he joined the Air Force Logistics Command, where he held the positions of Head of the Air Force Health Service and President of the Air Force Health Appeals Commission.
Since 15 March 2018 he has been Head of the Air Force Health Corps.
